The spectacular “Tracciolino” trail at 920 m asl links Valle dei Ratti and Val Codera. It has countless tunnels, and side barriers were added in 2017 to make it safer. A landslide still blocks it (2018) and so this ride finishes at the fork on the way down to the small village of Ci and the town of Codera. Though flat, this route is fairly exposed, requiring single file riding and is only for confident cyclists used to “verticality”. Its wildly beautiful views of Valchiavenna alternate between harsh and scenic, especially of Lake Novate. Fitter, more expert cyclists can pedal down to Codera on the trail and follow the valley on the long rough track to the Branca mountain refuge. Then a hard E-MTB ride up to the top of the Tracciolino (300 m total difference in altitude).
